Teaching

I love to teach and have taught courses to high school students, undergraduates, postgraduates, and professionals. Below are some of the courses I have designed and led, and details of my teaching experience. I will be adding more materials that I find helpful in the classroom.

I regularly do guest lectures at universities, and run bespoke training and workshops for policy-makers and organisations.

  • Emotions and Foreign Policy

Emotions are integral to our understanding of human behavior and the world around us, yet they are often given insufficient attention within the study of international relations.

I designed and led this course at Yale University in 2020. Challenging the division of reason and emotion, students examined how emotions are critical elements, and valuable sources of information, in foreign policy alongside power, security, politics, and interests.

The course was interdisciplinary, drawing on research in international relations theory, politics, history, political psychology and philosophy.

  • Empathy and Emotions in Policy-Making

This designed this online module in 2018 for the King’s International School for Government.

Taught by a lecturer at King’s College London, this course is for mid-career professionals, and examines how empathy is a valuable asset in the design and implementation of policy, and in creating policies that connect with, and respond to, diverse audiences.

It draws on an international and eclectic range of case studies, offers ideas and practical steps, and encourages practitioners to reflect on their unique experience and expertise in policy-making.
